Welcome, SaskBJJ Athletes!

Whether you’re entering your first competition or pursuing high-level goals, SaskBJJ is here to support your progress. Our mission is to help all athletes develop confidence, skill, and sportsmanship through safe, respectful, and competitive training opportunities.

Membership Requirements

All athletes participating in SaskBJJ-sanctioned events must hold a valid SaskBJJ membership for the current calendar year.

  • Membership ensures competition eligibility and insurance coverage.
  • Out-of-province athletes can purchase a SaskBJJ membership online and will confirm their registration at tournament check-in.

Know the Rules: IBJJF Rulebook

SaskBJJ tournaments follow the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) ruleset. Understanding the rules is essential for safe and fair competition.

Familiarizing yourself with the rules helps you:

  • Compete safely and confidently
  • Understand how points and penalties work
  • Avoid disqualification
  • Train more effectively with your coach

Athlete Grant Program

SaskBJJ offers financial assistance to eligible athletes to help cover:

  • Tournament registration
  • Travel and accommodations for major competitions
  • Developmental camps or seminars

To apply, athletes must:

  • Be a current SaskBJJ member
  • Submit a brief personal statement and coach recommendation
  • Demonstrate financial need, commitment, and sportsmanship

Tournaments: What to Expect

All SaskBJJ tournaments are organized through Smoothcomp. This platform allows athletes to:

  • Register online
  • View brackets and schedules
  • Access live results

At tournaments:

  • Arrive on time and check in with ID and membership card
  • Follow instructions from staff and referees
  • Compete with integrity and respect

As a SaskBJJ athlete, you’re expected to:

  • Train and compete with respect
  • Show humility in victory and dignity in defeat
  • Represent your club and federation with pride
  • Be a role model for younger athletes
  • Be an ambassador for the sport on and off the mats
